I guess it's like a speaker system that looks like a ladybug...duh. So for the party they had Silversun Pickups come play. The show wasn't an announced show, Silversun Pickups made a myspace bulletin yesterday morning, but other than that you had to be on the lookout for the fliers and other ways that it was announced. So after standing in line for about 15 mins. I got into Club 6 and the party had a cool vibe. They had live artists doing art on the walls and then in the next room, "The Dark Room," had the stage set up. Club 6 is quite small, definitely not a venue like the Fillmore where Silversun Pickups played last time they were in town (and sold out super quick). As you can bet, the place was packed and after about an hour or so, Silversun came out after being introduced by the founders of Element and Vestalife. So SIlversun Pickups came out and played one hell of a set. I hadn't seen them in a long time and I forgot how good they were live. The first song coulda used more vocals and some leveling, but that was taken care of and from there on out it was a lot of fun. Everyone was having a good time and then just my luck football practice starts right in front of me by a group of bros. Overall I had a really good time and it was great to see them in such an intimate venue once again. Funny how people go ape shit for Lazy Eye, as it being played all over the radio. Even the band noted how people from the bay love them and therefore they love playing here. They also noted that they are in the process of writing a new album and took the time out of that to play this show for Element. Overall a lot of fun...and hey, apparently I'm back to doing this Blog...so look for semi-regular updates.

Oh...just hangin out in Europe

So I've been in Ireland the last three weeks. I have done an awful job updating this thing, but oh well, I've been busy and not much interweb access. So I saw 4 shows while here. I leave Monday morning, so I figured I'd write in here now.
The first show I caught was O Death, a band from NY, and a local Dublin group called Goodtime John. We went to this show b/c we met some Irish girls and they told us it was a must show to go to. You know me, I'm always down for a show and to check out different venues. So Sunday night rolled around and we headed off to Whelan's for the show. Go there, had a few drinks then O Death came on. I hadn't heard them before, but they were really good and once thier full length comes out I will definitely be picking it up. They are folk/kasmer influenced and just were a lot of fun. Goodtime John was up next and they were really good to. Kinda mellowish folk/indie stuff, but I dug them.
The next show I caught was Monday and was No Age, Mika Miko, and Cap Pas Cap at the Boom Boom Room. Cap Pas Cap played first, they are from Dublin and were really good. They fit the bill of No Age and Mika Miko perfectly. Sounds like that screamy, static rock that is coming out of LA right now. Mika Miko was up next and were fantabulous. That and the lead singer is cute and fun to watch jump around. No Age was the highlight for me though. I saw them open for Matt & Kim at Noisepop and was just blown away. They were great. Their newer stuff isn't so full of feedback and noise, but is still really good. I can't wait to get home and find all their records waiting for me.
Tues. night I went out to a place called Crawdaddy's and caught Amy Millan and One Day International. One Day International was local and really really good. Kinda along the lines of Coldplay-esque brit pop, but with a chello and piano player backing. I really dug their stuff and am interested to grab their lp when it comes out, as they are still recording it at the moment. Amy Millan was really good. I like her voice over folk music. Plus how can you not like an attractive lady who sings about heartbreak and whiskey.
Then finally last night I got to catch Tokyo Police Club at the Hub. I was bummed when I was leaving b/c they were finally coming out west and I wasn't gonna be able to catch them. Then I got over here and realized that they had a show while I was here and I was stoked. The club was really cool, not the best sound, but small and a rad vibe. The opening band, who I didn't catch the name of, didn't thoroughly hold my attention, but weren't bad at the same time. Tokyo Police Club absolutely killed it though. They were fantastic and played pretty much their whole catalogue. Needless to say it was a great show and I'm really glad I got to catch them, and see their first show in Ireland.
Well I'm off Monday morning to Brussels, then to Copenhagen, Berlin and finally to Prague...maybe I'll update somewhere in there.

And I'm Off...

So I leave for the Airport in a little over an hour...finishing packing up and gonna shower then it's to the Airport to get on a jetplane headed for Dublin. First off, school kicked my ass this semester. I swear I wanted to keep up with this thing, and I had my intentions to do so...but alas it fell by the wayside as things seem to do in my life during different points in time. So here I am, free at last, free at last...haha, I write this from 15,000 ft. in the air on Southwest 1733 from PDX to OAK (allowing me to feel free to travel the country...or whatever their saying is). I spent the last four days of my life exploring and getting to know Portland, as well as getting to hand out with Andrew and meet some new cool people out there (Holly, Vince, SLO...among others). Portland is amazing to say the least. I totally understand why Andrew chose to follow his job there. It was great to get out of SF, I was getting restless there and as has been the routine of my life of the past five years or so, I don't tend to stay put for long...I enjoy taking a trip, even if it is for an even to see a show or an extended weekend to visit a much missed friend.

So I got into Portland Sat. afternoon/early evening. We headed to Andrew's place, which by the way is pretty dope, and dropped the luggage off and decided it was time for a beer and food. Headed across the street to Ruby Tuesday's and did just that. We then chilled out at his pad for a bit before heading down to SE Portland to meet up with the Portland crew and have drinks and let the madness to ensue. Rotture (sp?) was our first stop and was decent...minus the fact that I learned not to drink Old German beer, as PBR is totally worth the .50 cents more. Then the group split up and some headed somewhere while Vince, Andrew and myself jumped in the car and headed to The Gypsy. Not so poppin on Sat. night led us to Union Jack's. Union Jack's is the "suicide girls" strip club in Portland and it kicks the shit out of CA strip clubs...haha. First of all you can drink in that bitch, and second off, the dancers don't hassle everyone in the joint for dollars after they dance and aren't pushy for trying to get you to get a lap dance. So that was fun, and we hung out there and drank and shot the shit until the place closed down...oh by the way, did I mention PDX bars don't close till 2:30...yah, that was pretty dope. That was the conclusion to night one in Portland.

The next day we got up and got a move on and headed out to figure that city out. We spent some time in the W of Portland and then headed over to the SE side. Took a bunch of photos and got to see some dope stuff and kinda got a grasp on the city lay out and where everything was. Ended up driving up to Vancouver, WA too. Hittin up two states in one trip. You know how I do..haha. Vancouver wasn't all that crackin, but it was aight Next we headed back to Andrew's and then out to grab food. Ended up going to Buffalo Wild Wings (BW3), which was rad since I hadn't been to one since I was in Michigan a couple trips ago. That was fun and we ended up back at Andrews and just called it a night as we were both beat from being out all day and exploring.

Monday we hit up a sushi joint which was good, then we went out exploring some more and ended up over in the Hawthorne district and drinking at a bar. It was fun, then we headed back to Andrew's and plotted out our route for the evening. Hit up the Tri-Met and Max to DT and over to the Hold Steady show at Crystal Ballroom. Venue - alright, a little big for my taste and sound was decent, but overall not my fav. venue. Hold Steady were good, but they didn't play Killer Parties, which really bummed me out. Met some dudes before the show and got a drink with them afterwards...people are quite friendly up there, it's cool. Then we had to head back to Union Jack's as Andrew fell in love with a stripper and wanted to go back. It was chill and we hung out there for a while before grabbing a cab back to Andrew's and having a beer and crashing out for the night.

Woke up late this morning and just hung out, then grabbed Quizno's and headed out to meet up with Holly and her friend Zach and proceeded to Family Fun Center. Spent the afternoon driving go-karts, playing lazer tag, and mini golf. It was a fun time seeing as no one had done that sorta thing in a long while. Great way to cap off the weekend. I really wish I coulda stayed up there longer, it was a blast. And now I'm sitting on this flight reflecting and totally knowing I could move to Portland at some point in my life. But for now I'll just have to plan a visit again for after I get back from Europe.

Gotta say thanks to Andrew once again for everything even though it bums me out to think that he lives up there and it'll be a while before I get to visit him again...but I guess that's all part of growing up.

I'll be glad to be back in SF, I got a lot to do before I head to SD from the 6-13th and then to Dublin on the 16th. Lots of shows coming up which will be fun, and more updates coming soon...I promise...as well as a pic update with my sweet photog skills.

10:52 PM PST…I’m out (for now)…

OMG I'm Alive

So I kinda let this thing fall by the wayside. I had my LRW final, then Noisepop, then Spring Break, then I got slammed with school and Moot Court and papers...but fear not, I'm back, with hopefully some vengence.

I should be picking this back up with a little bit of regularity. So let's start this off.

Went and checked out Panda & Angel at the Make Out Room last night. Got there a little late and missed the opening band. Actually showed up about half way through fpodbpod's set. Took a seat at the bar and settled in for the ride.
Not gonna say too much about fpodbpod, they were alright, nothing amazing and didn't hold my interest too well, but they definitely had the draw of the bands, as about half the place emptied after they were done.

Panda & Angel are from Seatle and on Jade Tree. They are usually a five piece, but for an unknown reason to me they were only a two piece last night. Two guitars backed by laptop of drums, base and keys. I really like their sound. It's kinda all over the place, some of the songs I liked more than others, but it's a mix between indie rock, folk and some beats on certain songs. I was tired and bailed after their set was over, didn't even have the energy to check out their merch, sorry. But overall I like them and I think they could really do something if everything works out for them, which I hope it does.

I might go catch Scout's Honor tonite at the Hemlock, not sure, as I'm feeling somewhat lathargic, but we shall see...

Lily Allen @ GAMH 2-6-07

So I just got home from a very early/very weird show of Lily Allen.

Let's start out with why this was a weird show. First all, the show started at 8, had a 30 min. craptacular set from DJ Party Ben, there was a barracade in front of the stage, which I've never seen at GAMH before, and the crowd was just kinda awkward.

To top off the weirdness, there was no opening band, for a $20 show, and Lily went on at 9pm. I know from seeing her before that her sets are fairly compact especially because she really only has one album worth of material plus whatever covers she chooses to perform.

Overall, this show was good, just not as good as the last time I saw her at Mighty for the Not So Silent Night after party. Lily was dressed down, as she refered to herself as feeling lazy and mentioning how this was the first audience that has really gotten to see her ass in jeans. However, she looked just as cute as she always does. I think she is one of the most attractive ladies in music right now, but that's beyond the fact.

Lily's voice live sounds great, and exactly like her record. She is a good performer and interacts with the crowd just to the point that she leaves you wanting a bit more, but not too much to where you're sitting there thinking "I'd wish she'd just play her songs." She's witty, although she used a few of the same jokes as she had the last time I'd seen her. Overall it was a good show, although, not being a Specials fan, I was semi-bummed with her songs chosen for her encore. The first was the Special's cover, and then she ended with Alfie. I like Alfie, but it just doesn't do it for me as a closer.

Her hour long set was solid with only a few small dislikes in my opinion. I still wished the show wasn't over at 10 and they would've put in an opener instead of just DJ Party Ben, who spins horrible mashups that took me back to 2005.

I look forward to her having more new songs, even though the one new one she did play tonite was a great ballad.

As I promised...

I knew I'd get to updating this thing sooner than later. Definitely haven't slowed down at all with the new year, but at the same time neither has anything else in my life. I think I've been on the go for the past month. But anyways.

The week before Punk Rock Bowling I went to the The Independent to catch Girl Talk and Matt And Kim. Got there perfectly right before Matt And Kim came on. Wow, I liked their stuff online, but they were awesome live. I am really torn now that they have been announced to be headlining one of the nights of Noise Pop. Picked up their demo cd and haven't stopped listening to it, it's amazing. However, being as great as they were, they just couldn't top the dance party that Girl Talk brings live. He mixed everything I could've asked for and more. Definitely a fun fun fun live show. Check him out if he comes to your town, he is not to be missed.

Punk Rock Bowling was a blast. Drunk, expensive, but all around a great time, especially cause I got to hang out with my best friends and party for an entire weekend. Made it out to the Kickoff Show at the Empire Ballroom. Strike Anywhere was awesome, but the highlight of any bill with Dillinger Four on it is obviously gonna be D4. They killed and singing along, swaying back and forth is a necessity at thier show. We only stuck around for a couple Bouncing Souls. They were good, but I have seen them a ton, everyone was drunk and quite hungry so we made out way out of the venue and headed over to Fat Burger to hang out and be ridiculous.

Back in SF made it a point to catch the Avail and The Draft at Bottom Of The Hill. That show was great. The Draft played pretty much everything off "In A Million Pieces" which was fun. We showed up right as they came on and even though I love them, after the first note I missed Hot Water Music and was waiting for Chuck to pop onto stage and break into a song. I just don't think I'll ever not think of HWM when I listen to them. I've always liked Avail, but I will be quite honest when I say that I haven't listened to them in a long time. Why???? I DON"T KNOW. They are an amazing band and after their set I was soooo glad that I decided to get off my ass and take in that show, even though I had to miss Emily Haines.

Then, the other night, we once again headed out to Bottom Of The Hill, this time to catch Mac Lethal and P.O.S.. Both of these guys are on Rhymesayers, and both absolutely killed it. Mac Lethal is a very witty and comical lyricist, while P.O.S. is definitely a more thoughtful and serious MC. But both of these guys are fantastic and it definitely made me realize how much I'd drifted away from Hip Hop as of late.

Ok, that's a quick update, I'm gonna get back on show listings and more reviews in the next week or so, if I can catch my breath here soon enough.

What Happens In Vegas, Stays in Vegas?

I haven't updated in a long while, I have like 3 shows to go over. I decided I'm just going to update next week after I get back from Punk Rock Bowling in Vegas. I should have like 5 shows to review then. I suck, but have been busy as all get out as of late, with the start of school and what not. As for now, I'm gonna finish this class, then go home and pack before getting on a plane to Vegas tonite at 8. See ya suckas next week.

Why don't you get up...

So let's see...things have been slow, I've been in survival mode with finals.

First off I saw Ghostface Killah and Raekwon this past Sat. Got there in time to catch Pharoahe Monch's set, which was good. Then instead of Ghostface just coming out to do a set, Raekwon came out and did a couple of songs, before Ghost joined him to do a few of Only Built For Cuban Linkz. Then Ghost and Theodore Unit did a couple of songs, probably 5 or 6, then Ghost did a few more with Raekwon before Raekwon just finished out his set. Really was kinda bummed Ghost didn't do a long set and/or have merch. But whateva, I shoulda figured seeing as it was at Mezzanine, with 5 million people on the bill. I'm still contemplating whether I want to go check the show out in SD at HOB on the 21st. We shall see.

Tonite I went over to 12 Galaxies to catch The Cave Singers. I had only heard a few of their songs, and only knew that it was Derek from Pretty Girls Make Graves. But WOW, that's all I can say. They were fucking amazing. So good in fact, I'm seriously contemplating driving up to LA to see them next Friday night. Didn't really catch the opening acts, except one song from Okay. But it was ok, cause The Cave Singers were amazing. Picked up their demo cd, and I'm sure it'll be on rotation and played on my iPod for quite some time to come...

SD from the 20-28, so probably no updates, possibly though.

Diplo, Flosstradamus, & Kid Sister on the 29th, and then soon there after will be ringin in 2007...crazy how fast this year went. Ok, I got cleaning and packing to do.

Prodigy - Fillmore 11-24-06

So I got free tickets to go see Prodigy at the Fillmore. Since my parents were in town and we were gonna grab dinner with my brother on his lunch hour I made sure to check what time the show was. 9 pm doors. Figured, ok, Prodigy won't play till 1030 or so. So I ate dinner and had some drinks with my parents, then picked up Tiffany and headed to the Fillmore. We get there at 1030 and to my surprise, Prodigy is already fully into their set. I mean come on...what headlining band goes on before 1030. But whatever. So we tried to grab a drink, but alas they don't take cards after the headliner starts at the Fillmore because there is a minimum. Although I could have easily hit any minimum because beers are $5, but hey, the Fillmore just takes less of mine and Tiffany's money.

So back to Prodigy. I enjoy some of their music and have always heard they put on a great live show. So I settled in and watched. Not being one of their fan boys, I never had realized that for the most part, only Keith or Maxim present on stage during a song. This semi-confused me, but alas was overcome after I was watching them go crazy and the crowd eat up every minute of it. Maxim was all over the place, through the crowd and standing on the sound board podium. Plus they had one of the craziest light shows I've ever witnessed at a show. Although we didn't get to hear their whole set, the highlights for me were Smack My Bitch Up and Dead Ken Beats. Dead Ken Beats is a new song which samples California Uber Alles and is pretty good.

Like I said before the crowd was really into it and it was fun to watch people go nuts for this band. There was even a girl with glowsticks doing the orb. I really wish they wouldn't have started so early so that I could have seen the whole set, but what are you going to do. Gotta send props out to Productshop NYC for the free tickets and a good show. For me, I definitely was not let down to the reviews that I had read and been told of a Prodigy show. Thier new material sounds great and when it finally is released should be a good electronic cd.

+/-

So I did indeed head out to Bottom of The Hill to check out +/-. I got there in time to catch Whysall Lanes' set. They were really good. The lead singer is actually the brother of the lead singer of +/-. I think I just confused myself with that last sentence. They put on a good set. After their set I discovered that Anchor Steams Christmas and New Years beer is out for the year and that Bottom of the Hill was serving it. So good. +/- played a really strong set. The crowd was into them and having a good time, which in turn allowed them to have a good time. They kept thanking everyone for coming out and saying how SF was the place they look most to playing when they go on tour. They played a lot of new stuff that is more indie-pop than their older stuff, but it is definitely still got their own sound to it. Even though they don't sound like them, +/- reminds me of Pinback, with keyboards and beats. I guess they play that same kind of segmented rock. They were fantastic though. It was good to hear older stuff mixed in, as for me, hearing the new stuff live was hearing it for the first time. Irving was up next...I've seen them before and they are really good, but unfortunately I took off and headed home to work on my final. Which speaking of it, I should get working on it some more. Don't think I'm gonna make it out to see Straylight Run, but you never know.

Shows this week:
Copeland, Appleseed Cast & Owen at Slim's on Monday
Album Leaf & Dirty On Purpose on Tuesday
Mates of States at GAMH on Wednesday possibly
Prodigy at Fillmore on Friday - I'll be reviewing this show for productshonyc

A Few Short Reviews

Ok, so as much as I've been trying to relax this week, I've been burning the proverbial candle at both ends. Seems as though I haven't slept more than 5 hours a night all week, which means I'm about to fall asleep in class right now. But instead of falling asleep I've decided I'd just act like I'm taking notes and type out this entry. Thanks USF for providing wireless interweb in class. So let's get to it...

Tues. night I ended up going to both Annie's Social Club and The Mezzanine. I started off by going to Annie's to meet up with the Tiltwheel guys and Josh Mosh. Hung out there and said hellos to them and had a few beers. Watched Off With Their Heads (Minneapolis) who were really good. I'd heard their stuff before and enjoyed them, but hadn't sat down with anything or was super familiar with them. They put on a great show and it showed as everyone yelled for them to play longer than their 20 min. set they wanted to play. I decided to walk up to the Mezzanine to try and see if I could catch Young Love, but when I got there it seemed that everyone else had showed up at that time too, since the line went from the venue and down the alley almost to 5th St. However, upon further inspection, it seems that doors had been delayed from 9 till 10pm and also posted were no ins and outs signs. Seeing as I wanted to see Tiltwheel and that doors hadn't even opened, it just wasn't in the cards for me to catch the Young Love set, especially because it meant I would have to sit through Mickey Avalon, who apparently was horrible. So I headed back down to Annie's and caught then end of Vena Cava's set, shotgunned beers by the Tiltwheel band and hung out with people. Finally Tiltwheel played. They are so much fun and I'm really happy that they are finally releasing new stuff and going to be touring somewhat more consistently. They are super nice guys and deserve to get some success. So after I watched them, Gav and I headed to the Mezzanine to meet up with Mike who had an extra ticket for Gav since his girlfriend opted to skip the show on account that doors didn't open till 10 and she had to work early. We got there after midnight and still waited about a half hour for Lady Sovereign to come out. Once she did it looked as though it might be a long trouble ridden set. Throughout the first two songs she couldn't hear herself, as the amp for the monitors had apparenlty blown up. She was getting really fed up and I think started to cry at one point. However, after taking a short break sitting in front of the drums, she got up, and decided she'd just try her best. And the best it was. The show was great, minus the fact that the crowd was one of the lamest crowds I'd ever been a part of. You could definitely tell that half the people were there only because she might be the next big thing or that they had only heard Love Me Or Hate Me. I actually had one girl turn to me and try to get me to move over because her friend was claustrophobic, which I promptly told her, "I don't mean to sound like an ass, but tell her to go to the back of the club." But she played a great set minus the crowd. Although I'm not a huge fan of her Sex Pistols Cover, it sounded good live. I'm just glad that I caught the San Francisco show and not the show in LA the next night, as apparently she broke down and didn't even get past the first two songs.

Wednesday night was Tiltwheel/Vena Cava/Off With Their Heads round 2. However, this night was spent partying much more and also trying to convince Davey to get on stage and play a set. Everything worked out and a good time was had. I have to note that the Balazo Gallery is one of the strangest venues I've ever been to. It's very DIY, which is cool, but at the same time needs a little help. Cool thing is that they have a bar in a strange back room, which seemed like it was straight out of a movie. Balazo could be cool, but is lacking at this point in time.

Last night I volunteered for Music For America. They put on a show at Cafe Du Nord in which Division Day and Dredg played. Volunteering meant me sitting behind a merch table and selling one book. It was cool. I think their other events might be more organized and a little bit better. It seems like a good foundation/program and the people were very friendly. If you haven't, I encourage you to give it a go and volunteer for them. (You will at least get a free show out of the experience). The show itself was good. Division Day was the real reason I wanted to go. They are from LA and play a cool piano and rock mix. These guys will definitely be doing something here in the near future. Dredg was really good. I haven't seen them in a couple years probably and although I didn't really enjoy their last CD, this show was really fun. They played a shorter set and were goofing around the whole time. I guess the lead singer actually works at Music For America, so I'm guessing that's why they played. As I said before, this show was at Cafe Du Nord, which I hadn't been to before. It's a decent venue. I wasn't blown away by it, but I also didn't realize how small it was. I now know that when a show I want to see comes there, I better get tix in advance, as it was sold out last night, but definitely wasn't packed. Good sound in the venue, decor and stuff was kinda weird and faux uppity, bottles of PBR were 3.50, which is steep, so overall I would give the venue a B-. Not horrible, but nothing to write home about. I have to admit it would be a B+ or A- had the beer been a dollar cheaper.

Tonite I might make it out to Bottom Of The Hill to catch Irving and +/- and try to get ahold of a Faint ticket. Tomorrow I might try to catch Maria Taylor at Hotel Utah, but it's an early show and I'm supposed to have plans so we'll see. And depending on how my final goes this weekend I might try to go early and pick up a ticket to see Straylight Run and Matt Pond PA on Sunday at BOTH. Ok, I guess I'll pay attention in class now...

Again, I'm playing catch up.

Last week was fun. I didn't end up going to see Lupe Fiasco at Independent on Tues. Couldn't justify the $20 just to see him without anyone else that I was interested in on the bill. I need to find someone to pay me to go to shows, that way I can actually go to all of them I want.
Wednesday night I caught Brandtson, Lovedrug and The Myriad at Annie's Social Club. I hadn't been to Annie's before and I really like it. Reminds me of the Zombie Lounge or Ken Club in SD. Just a little bar venue. The Myriad were the first band up. They were good, in the vein of Copeland. I don't know much about them, but I would definitely check them out if they were to come through here soon again. Brandtson were up next. I'm not going to lie, I love Brandtson. Their shows are always a ton of fun and even though they play some poppy music, I'm all for it, especially when you can just let loose and have fun. They played mostly new stuff, in fact I believe they only played one older song and it was still off Send Us A Signal. Would've liked to hear something off the Death & Taxes EP. But nonetheless, they put on a great show and I had a good time. Lovedrug headlined which I would of rather had Brandtson do, but oh well. I really liked Lovedrug's last CD, but there is just something that doesn't translate over to their live show for me. I didn't end up sticking around for their whole set as I just kinda got bored, especially after Brandtson's upbeat set. But I got to hear Spiders, which I really do like. I guess they had a new EP Lovedrug was selling, so I'm guessing a lot of their set was off that. Overall a good show, but like I said, I would've liked to see Brandtson headline and play a longer set.

Thursday I ended up not going to any of the shows, but rather drinking at the Diesel store in Castro at some 2007 line party I guess. It was fun and as Andrew put it, we spent the night "double fisted faux shopping for $300 pants"

Friday was the Minus The Bear, Velvet Teen show. We headed over to North Beach to Bimbo's about 2 hours early because Gav and myself didn't have tickets, but they were releasing some before the show. So we got tix, then got some gelato and a slice before the show. Russian Circles opened the show. If you haven't heard them and are into instrumental stuff, you need to check them out ASAP. They are fantastic and really tight. One must be fairly badass in order to pull off an instrumental band, and Russian Circles is no less than badass. The Velvet Teen was up next. They played a great set comprised of almost all stuff off their record Cum Laude. Judah uses a megaphone throughout the set, which for most bands would backfire on them in two seconds; however, Judah and the Velvet Teen pull it off like champions. Their set, while too short was really entertaining and action packed. POS, a rapper from Minneapolis, was up next. While Andrew was not feeling it in the least bit, he was soured from the San Diego show and POS's negative attitude. I however enjoyed his performance. Although I thought he could've switched spots in the lineup with Velvet Teen, he was still a good act and fun to watch. He reminded me of Sage Francis but not to Sage's level. While some of his flows were contrived and at sometimes not so fluid, he still put on a good set and people were into him. (it was actually funny to see the hip hop heads out at this show because you knew they were there for POS). Overall it was a decent set that kept my attention for the most part. Finally it was time for Minus the Bear to come out. First off I feel as though I should somewhat apologize as I'm the only asshole that feels the need to badger one of my favorite bands on stage. But anyways, they played a good set with a few new songs mixed in. Two of the newer songs they played on their last tour as well, so they weren't completely new to myself. The first new song they played was called Face Monster, the second was Electric Rainbow, and the last I didn't catch the name of. Two things kinda bummed me out, as it seems that Minus has all but ditched their ways of naming songs with ridiculous song titles and two the new songs lack that punch of other songs as they are slower and not as intricate so far. I know, I know, as they go record the songs they will come together more, but we shall see. Overall a good set even though it seems as they have totally dropped Electric Boogaloo Part 2: Get Me Naked from their repertoire . I had a good time seeing them, but would've had even more fun had it been at the Casbah in SD like the past couple times I've seen them there.

The rest of the weekend was spent partying and hanging out with Andrew. It was good to see him and I thank him for making the trip up to hang out.

I ended up deciding not to go to Riottt Fest on Sat. and from the Pitchfork review, I think the only thing I missed out on was the Clipse performance. It seems Girl Talk only played a 10 min. set. So overall I'm glad I saved my $40 bucks, especially since Girl Talk will be at the Independent in Jan.

For Now I'm out. I should have a show list up tonite or early tomorrow. For tonite you either need to be at the Mezzanine to see Lady Sovereign or at Annie's Social Club to see Tiltwheel and Vena Cava. Hopefully I will be at both, but am definitely going to be at the Mezzanine.

I need a ticket to the Minus The Bear show at Bimbo's on Friday. I apologize, but just haven't had many spare moments as of the last couple of weeks. Shit, where do I start. I guess from where my last entry left off.

Went and saw Sufjan Stevens over in Berkeley. He puts on a wonderful show and this one was no different. It wasn't as good as his other shows, but it was a solid show. He was backed by a choir, which definitely brought a cool element to the show. During his xmas song, "That was the worst Christmas ever" he had people dump about 50-100 blow up santas off the top balcony. It was pretty funny to watch people toss them like beach balls. Then he did the same with "The man from Metropolis Steals Our hearts" but with blow up Supermans. He played a decent amount off of The Avalanche, his b-side album, which I like but not as much as his others...I mean there had to be some reason those songs didn't make the final cut...haha. My Brightest Diamond opened the show and all I could say is wow, she's amazing, definitely check her out if you get a chance. I guess she's a trained opera singer.

The next night was Lucero. It started out seeing Ben acoustic at Amoeba, which was awesome. He has one of my favorite rock voices, and it sounds even better over acoustic guitar. We then headed home and over to slims. Missed William Elliot Whitmore, who I saw down in SD at the Casbah this summer and was really good. But we made it in time for Rocky Votolato, who has definitely blown up a bit in the last year. He's always a good show, although his voice did seem to be a little off for the first half of the set. Don't know if maybe he was sick or sore throat or what, but sounded a little strained. Lucero puts on one of the best live shows ever. They played a good mix of everything as always. Their new CD is great in my opinion and it was cool to see those songs transfered over live. Kinda weird to see Lucero with a keyboardist though. Definitely wasn't used to that aspect. It works on the new songs, because they have that organ feel to some of them. However, on some of the older songs, it sounded a bit strange, but didn't detract from me getting drunk and singing along to all of the classics.

Monday the 16th I headed down to Bill Grahm with my brother to see Bob Dylan. I'm glad I finally got to see him, as I was gonna last year when he played LA and didn't. This was my bday present from my brother, and I don't think I could've gotten a better present. Dylan was amazing. Modern Times is a great overall record and with many other Dylan records, I'm sure it will go down as a classic. He played a lot off that, with the staples thrown in for good measure. I walked out with a smile. I think my brother was bummed, as he doesn't play guitar live anymore, but I had known that going in and was complacent with it. Thanks B for a great bday present.

This is where the shows get crazy, after Dylan on Mon. night, Tues. night was Hold Steady @ Great American Music Hall. Hold Steady are another great live band, and all of a sudden it seems they've become a buzz band on the internet and blogosphere. Pitchfork wants their nuts, even after they dissed Lifter Puller for having shitty vocals...haha. They played everything I wanted to hear. Ended with Killer Parties which made my drunkeness even better, but not as good as Gav's.

Wed. night was the Boris & Doomrider's show at Slim's. Doomriders opened and were great. They played a brutal set and kept making jokes about how their songs went out to anyone who rides a skateboard. Solid set. Boris was fucking rad. Their drummer is the best drummer ever. Japan puts out crazy music and Boris is no exception. They were tight and spot on. The chick on guitar slays. Just a great band and I'm glad I made it out to see them. And I got the Vein LP which I would've had no chance at getting were it not for them touring, since they cut the pressing down severely. Only downside is that it was $30, but it's worth it after listening to it. Hooray Boris.

Thurs. night I headed out to Popscene at 330 Ritch for the Mew show. This was my first time at Popscene and I learned a few things. A. You'll probably want to be at least buzzed to be there. and B. Bands don't go on till 1030 and go late. But I learned my lesson, and then thoroughly enjoyed Mew. Their new record is really good, getting compared to Sigur Ros, even though to me they only sound slightly like them at times. But they were awesome and it was cool to see them in a smaller venue, especially since I missed them at the Independent when they opened for Kasabian the week before.

Friday night was Beirut at Great American Music Hall and let me just say WOW WOW WOW. I really enjoy their album, but their live show is something totally else. From the first note on it was reminiscent of early Broken Social Scene shows. The energy on both the stage and in the crowd was just great. People were dancing around and just having a great time. They played three new songs, elephant gun, transatlantic, and one i didn't catch the name of, as well as I think every track off thier album. They came back for an encore and were pretty much left with the only last song they knew. A Hawk and A Hacksaw opened the show. They were really good, and the girl in the band was gorgeous.

On the 24th Gav and I headed over to Oakland to catch The Transit War. Their new cd is a great pop punk cd and is catchy as hell. They did a great job and they deserve all the success they can get. Jim was telling us how they just got added to the Lost Prophets tour, which is great for them, as they will be playing larger venues to even more kids. If you get a chance, check out thier new CD Miss Your Face, it's great.

Wed. the 25th I headed to the bottom of the hill for the Metal Hearts and Say Hi To Your Mom show put on by Noise Pop. Metal Hearts put out an amazing CD on Suicide Squeeze earlier this year I think. They are great live. Super nice people. Definitely check out thier record, Socialize, as it is really good. They must be doing something right, as they were out of CDs becuase they sold out from the night before. That was fine with me, as they only had vinyl, right up my alley. Say Hi To Your Mom was solid. He reminds me of Jonah Matranga, who I will try to catch tomorrow night at the Make Out Room, and Atom and His Package. Just a dood playing guitar to some backing beats. He put on a fun show and had the crowd shakin thier asses. He thanked everyone for having fun, after playing LA the night before and getting very little response from the crowd. Noise Pop puts on some of the best low key shows around.

Thurs. night it was back to Bottom Of The Hill for Heavens, Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio's new project. They put on a solid show. It was weird to see Matt not playing guitar and just singing. He should work on more rockstar moves for being a frontman...haha. Good show, I just really wasn't in the mood for a show that night, which made it hard to get really into it. Glad I went though, as it's unclear whether Heavens will continue on, or what.

This last week I was planning on going to see Foward Russia! at Cafe Du Nord, but they unexpectedly dropped off that show and I just didn't have the energy to make it out to see Scanners, which kinda bums me out, because I really like thier record.

Wed. night I went and saw Justice and MSTRKRFT at Mezzanine. A late show, but a fun show nonetheless. MSTRKRFT killed it. They put together a good set and had the crowd dancing the whole time. Justice was solid too. I didn't know until today that they pissed off Kanye by winning an award at the EMAs for Best Video. Kinda funny shit. It was fun dancing along to their sets. I haven't danced for a straight 2 and a half hours ever I don't think...haha.

Last night I headed out to Popscene again to catch Voxtrot and Love Is All. Before I headed there I went down the street and checked out the Dia De Los Muertos altars at Garfield Park. I didn't know that people built such elaborate altars. It was really cool and intense. Kinda hard, as I was thinking of my Grandma the whole time. But it is meant as an honor, not as mourning. So over at the Popscene, Love Is All started off. They are from Sweden and put on a good show. They're not the tighest band, sounded sloppy in parts, but they were fun. I like their tunes and it was cool to see them live, especially since it was their first time here. Voxtrot was next. I've been wanted to see them for a while now, and seem to keep missing them. Finally though, I was redeemed, and redeemed I was. I really like them, and that was not lessened at all by their live show. I felt like they should play a Sock-Hop themed party, as it could be fun. That's just the thought that came to mind while seeing them last night. Ramesh broke a string and they played a few songs on piano and him singing, including Soft and Warm, which I really like. They played a short set, but it was great.

As I said before, tomorow is Jonah Matranga and then possibly Voxtrot depending on how I feel. I will get back to regular posts this week.

Went and saw These Arms Are Snakes and Thrice the other night. unfortunately was late and missed Planes Mistaken For Stars who I really wanted to see and was kinda the basis for buying tix. These Arms Are Snakes were great. Friday afternoon I went and saw Elvis Costello at the Hardly Stricly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park. It was an awesome set. He played a ton of songs on acoustic guitar for about 40 mins, then was joined by a backing band and guests including Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch and others for about an hour and 20 mins. So he played a free 2 hour set. Needless to say, he was amazing and a great artist. That night I went and watched Rigoletto, the opera by Verdi in UN plaza with my brother. It has been quite a while since I've watched an opera, and it made me realize how much I do miss going to them.

Sat. I ended up heading over to the Mezzanine to catch the Cold War Kids and Album Leaf show. So the Mezzanine, where should I start. I walked in and was quite impressed with it at first. Cool, semi-swanky NY club decor and a medium-sized venue. The sound at this place is amazing. However, it isn't run like a venue, but rather as an aforementioned club. $5 for a Miller Lite, just kind of weird how it was run. The bar closest to the stage shut down before the Album Leaf even took the stage. Overall it's a decent venue, but I would definitely recommend getting your drink on before you head there if you plan on drinking at all. For me it was too rich for my blood, I don't even want to know how much people were paying for any type of mixed drink. Also, there were 4 bands, first one didn't go on till 9:40 or 9:45. Thus meaning that the Album Leaf didn't get done playing till 1:45 am.
But, that first band was San Diego's Delta Spirit. Even though SD usually produces quite horrible bands, I have definitely been taken by Delat Spirit. They recently put out an EP on Monarchy Music, which I would have purchased, had every band not packed up all their merch and split by the time the show was over. Their loss I guess. But they put on a good show and I have actually caught them play up here twice now, more than I actually saw them in SD.
Next was Foreign Born. I wasn't completely sold on them based on their live performance, although it did pick up towards the end of their set. I most definitely want to see how they sound on record, because live they just seemed to be missing an element.
Cold War Kids were obviously the band that people had come out to see. I missed their last show at Cafe Du Nord less than a month ago, but I'm not all that bummed I did, only because they came back so soon. Their set was good, however, it kinda bummed me out on the fact that the only person who seemed like he wanted to be there playing was the bassist. They played a solid set though, with a lot of their new songs being played. Their album hits tomorrow, so I will probably have to pick it up.
The Album Leaf was the clincher on going to this show for me. Being from SD, Album Leaf has held a place in my heart for a long time now, probably going on like 7 years. I have seen them play a ton of times, and I have not ever been let down. This was the second time I had seen the new material performed live, the first being at the Whistlestop in SD, and it sounded just as amazing as it did the first time. This band always puts me in a good mood and I can always have fun at their shows, this is when I'm not dead tired and they aren't making it easy for me to shut my eyes and take a snooze from being so relaxed. I felt bad because they went on so late, that there ended up only being about 30 people left when they finished at 1:45, but Jimmy was greatful and kept thanking us for sticking around. I'm looking forward to seeing them play the The Independent in about 6 weeks.

Pat Spurgeon Benefit @ Independent 9-30-06

Wow, that's pretty much all I can say about this show. You can't help feel lucky when you get to attend a benefit like this. So many great artists on the bill, and a sense of really helping someone or something in need. This particular show was to benefit Pat Spurgeon, whom if you don't know, has been plagued with kidney problems since birth. You Can Further Your Reading Pleasures Here

So anyways, as I stated before, this show was chuck full of great acts, and they were all playing in a club that could've been sold out by them years ago. I showed up a little late, but was just in time to catch the Moore Brothers. Don't know much about them, although those two doods can harmonize. They were decent. Played four songs and were done. Next was John Vanderslice. For those of you who don't have his newest record Pixel Revolt, it needs to be picked up asap, or at least I recommend it. It is a great album, and it was fun to finally get a chance to catch him live. It seems everytime he comes into town I can't make it to the show for one odd reason or another. He was good, playing a shorter, but very enthralling set. I was hoping he'd play Exodus Damage, but maybe next time.

Then it was time for Nada Surf. They had played a set over in Berkeley earlier in the evening and then headed over to the Independent to play this show. I have seen Nada Surf a couple times before and they are fantastic. This set contained solo stuff from Matt Cawley, as well as acoustic full band songs. They played a lot off of This Weight is A Gift, with one or two older songs thrown in for good measure. They were fun as they always are.

Then was the moment I had been waiting for. I'm not gonna lie, when this show was announced as a rogue wave show with friends, I was very torn between it and the Jason Collett show at Cafe Du Nord. I was bummed because they had been on tour together, until they hit SF. However, once Ben Gibbard was announced as playing this show I knew where I was going to be on Sat. night. I got to see Ben play the Hurricane Katrina benefit at Great American Music Hall about two years ago, and from that knew that seeing him play acoustic stuff solo is a treat in itself.
The setlist is as follows:
Brand New Colony
Title And Registration
405
Soul Meets Body (which was played on the piano)
Passenger Seat (on piano)
Cuddly Toy (Monkee's cover) w/Nada Surf
Blacking Out The Friction (w/ Daniel Handler on Accordion)
Military Madness (Crosby Stills & Nash cover) w/Daniel Handler
Such Great Heights

I love the fact that Ben always plays different covers at his solo shows. Both covers were fantastic, although I preferred Military Madness. In between Title and Registration and 405 he went into a humerous little rant about how he can't escape the Black Eyed Peas these days. It is damn true though, they are everywhere. Everyone thought they were gonna get a break from them, then Fergie goes out and has released her own album. But anyways, I love seeing Ben in intimate venues, especially because he interacts with the audience so well and on a level he just can't seem to do in the venues Death Cab is playing now adays.

Finally the evening came down to what it was all about. Rogue Wave. And they came out ablazing. They played a great set after being introduced by Pat's mother. It was noted that a venue in Indiana, where Pat is from and played many times, was also doing a benefit show that night for Pat. It was nice to see things like that going on. I had their setlist, but being the idiot I am, I accidently deleted it off my phone. However, they did play California with the help of Ryan Miller, of Guster, and even brought everyone on stage for a few covers. They covered Elvis Costello as well as the Beatles and the Who if my memory serves me right. I probably should have written this on Sunday, after the show, but this last week was incredibly busy and I had to get things done when I had free time on the weekend. But it was definitely a great show. If you get a chance buy one of these, because proceeds are going to Pat. Or you can check out Rogue Wave's site and give a donation through it.

Mastodon, Converge & the Bronx @ Slims 9-26-06

So Gav and I went out to Slim's last week and checked out this show. I was definitely glad that I didn't skip over it. I've seen both Converge and the Bronx numerous times before, but it was my first time seeing Mastodon. We got there right after the start of the Bronx's set. They were good, even though it seemed like the crowd was only so-so sold on them. They played a decent mix of new and old stuff.

Next was Converge. This was definitely my main reason of going to this show, even though I do like the other bands. It had been forever since I last saw converge. I think it was the last time they played the Che cafe in SD that I had seen them, so this was definitely a different Converge show than I was used to. Even though I'm still not convinced that hardcore music transfers over to larger venues, if anyone is able to pull it off it is Converge. They played a great set and even some new ones. I was bummed they left out Jane Doe, which they did play the last couple of times I had seen them. But overall a good solid performance, even though I've never been let down by them.

Mastodon was next. I am not unfamiliar with Mastodon, but I don't own any of their CDs, only listened to them every once in a while. They are definitely a solid metal band live. Very tight and can be technical at the times it calls for it. I have to say my favorite thing about them was the guitarist's haircut though...haha. They played some stuff off the Moby Dick inspired CD, whom's title is slipping my mind at the moment, and a lot of stuff of their newest album, Blood Mountain.

We both left the show satisfied and as I said before, I was definitely glad that I didn't skip over this show, especially cause they sold out slims for two nights.

Okay, so I didn't get to post last night, but you get one this morning. Yesterday was fun. Although I didn't make it out to the Meg and Dia show at Balazo, I did catch the The Presets at the Folsom Street Fair. They were absolutely amazing. Great dancey music from Austrailia. This was my first Folsom Street Fair experience as I am newly transplanted to the city, and it did not let me down. I love how there are things like this and Lovefest in this city, because I don't think they could take place anywhere else. But back to the Presets. If you haven't listened to them, do it now. They are in the vein of Teddybears, MSTRKRFT, Justice, and that genre. They played for about 50 mins and it was energetic and had almost everyone in the crowd dancing along, which I think they enjoyed as the drummer kept taking pictures of the crowd and let's face it, daytime shows are not usually known for the crowd really moving around. But they put on a hell of a show, and I really wish I had more time tonite to see them again. They are playing again tonite at the Independent with My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult.

Other Shows this week:

Monday
The Presets and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult @ The Independent
Mastodon, Converge, and The Bronxxx @ Slim's
The Drams @ Bottom Of The Hill

Tuesday
Mastodon, Converge, and The Bronxxx @ Slim's
Junior Boys @ Bottom Of The Hill
Medeski Martin & Wood @ The Fillmorel
Leon Russell @ The Independent
The Photo Atlas & Death Of A Party @ Cafe Du Nord

Wednesday
Damnwells and Army of Me @ Bottom Of The Hill
Young Love & The Pink Spiders @ The Fillmore
Pelican & Daughters @ Great American Music Hall
Kaki King @ The Independent

Thursday
Silversun Pickups @ The Rickshaw Stop
Darker My Love @ Popscene
Starsailor @ Great American Music Hall
Cherry Poppin Daddies @ Red Devil Lounge
Mojave 3 & Brightblack Morning Light @ Slim's
Flogging Molly & Zox @ The Warfield

Friday
Grizzly Bear @ The Independent
M.Ward @ The Fillmore
Birdmonster & Division Day @ Slim's
TV On The Radio @ The Library (Sacramento)
Cibelle @ Cafe Du Nord
Scissor Sisters @ The Warfield

Saturday
Rogue Wave w/Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), John Vanderslice, Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), plus more @ The Independent
Jason Collett (Broken Social Scene) @ Cafe Du Nord
Gossip @ Bottom Of The Hill
Download Festival (ft. However, with everything that I had on my plate this last week, I don't feel too horrible about not updating. So let's see, I got back into town from Detroit late Monday night, and was swamped trying to catch up with school on Tuesday. Wed was actually chill. My afternoon class was cancelled and I got to hang out and get stuff done. Went to the Chrome store and picked up a new bag so to make it easier on myself getting to school.

That's the one I got, except it's black on black and has a black belt buckle. It's pretty damn hot. Then Gav and I picked up our tickets for Mastodon, Converge, and the Bronxxx at Slims. And since neither of us had anything to do during the day, we decided to take an adventure over to In-N-Out. It was very tourist to say the least, In-N-Out is over in Fisherman's Wharf, so I think we were the only people on both the cable car and streetcar that weren't snapping pictures and/or speaking english as a second language. It was fun to get out and explore a bit though.

Finally, that night was the Lawrence Arms, Draft show. We got there right as Blackout Pact was taking the stage. They were alright, but they didn't seem to hold my attention for too long. They seemed sloppy, and their riffs and sound seemed to be heavily screamo influenced. The Draft was next. If you don't know, The Draft is Hot Water Music minus Chuck Ragan, whom they apparently replaced with another dude. Although it is all the members of HWM, their sound is a bit different. It is on the more user friendly side of HWM. However, they are a very tight band, and were great to see live. It was a consensus between the group that HWM was missed after their set. The whole time they were playing I was waiting for Chuck to start singing a song like it was a HWM show. They played stuff off their new album, A Million Pieces, and put on a hell of a show. Finally it was time for The Larry Arms. They played a solid set, however, I was let down by the fact that they seemed to focus heavily on their new stuff, but I guess that should've been expected since it is their first headlining tour since putting out their newest album, Oh Calcutta! They played 100 Resolutions, which is definitely one of, if not my favorite song of theirs. It was a great show, and I love Bottom Of The Hill, I guess I just got spoiled after seeing them in SD at the Zombie Lounge on Thanksgiving last year. Now that was a fucking show. But it was a great show.

Thursday I didn't do much, just homework and more catching up. Friday I came home and slept for 3 hours, then went and saw Jackass 2 with my brother. It was a funny movie and a good follow up to the first one. More stupid, slap-stick humor that everyone has grown to love from the Jackass crew.

Yesterday I ran a few errands then headed to UN Plaza for SF Lovefest. I had never really heard of Lovefest before, but it was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever experienced. UN Plaza was taken over with electronic music and it was pretty much a huge dance party. I met up with my friends Sean, Zack, and Alyssa and Sean's European friends and had a blast. We drank, danced and just took in the sights to be seen. There were like 20 "stages" that are really floats from the parade, that just play music. The Beatport stage is where we spent most of our time, the DJs there were top notch and had the crowd fucking loving them. They were spinning everything and anything, including a Coldplay remix. So after dancing for 3 hours, we headed to Alyssa's and had some drinks. Then I headed down to Slim's for the Phoenix show. I got there towards the end of La Rocca's set, but was fairly impressed by them. They seemed to be a solid band. Phoenix was great. They played a lot off their new album, which is good, but I was hoping for some of the more atmospherical stuff they've done on their old albums. But they nontheless, put on a great show and came back for an encore that had the whole crowd dancing. It was a great way to cap off a dancefilled day.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I will update again tonite with a list of shows this week.

I'm gonna try to make it out to see the Presets at Folsom Street Fair today, and hopefull to the Balazo Gallery tonite to see Meg & Dia and Action Reaction.

And the Sadness Will Prevail...

So it looks like my plans for this weekend have been drastically changed. Unfortunately my Grandma passed away last night, so that means I'll be heading to Detroit for the weekend to say final goodbyes. I don't want to be at school right now, but I don't have a choice. Gram, you are loved and will be dearly missed. I love you gram.

I might try to make it out to the Laura Veirs show tonite, Two Gallants instore at Amoeba and possibly the White Whale show tomorrow, but other than that I probably won't update until next week when I get back into town, unless I get the motivation to do those show reviews.

Apple never seems to let me down...

So as usual I'm about a day late. I blame being sick. I didn't make it out to the rickshaw last night to see Decibully and Headlights like I really wanted to, but I had reading to do and wasn't feeling great. So I elected to stay in and get some reading done, not much though, and watch the Charger game on MNF. And I think I made the right choice after all. The game was amazing, it's always nice to see the Chargers play well and beat up on the Raiders. It was good to see Rivers have a good first start and to see the Defense dominate. Brooks got pulled in the second half after being sacked seven times and only completing six passes. I loved it. But anyways, kind of a slow week for shows here it seems. Let's get to it on this beautiful Tuesday.

Tuesday
Golden Smog(without Jeff Tweedy) is @ The Fillmore
Scars of Tomorrow @ The Pound
Young Dro @ Space 550

Wednesday
Laura Veirs @ Cafe Du Nord
Adam Green @ The Independent
Tha Legendary Shack Shakers and Scotch Greens @ Slim's
Sugarcult (Instore) @ Rasputin's @ 5pm
Sugarcult and The Spill Canvas @ The Fillmore

Thursday
Two Gallants (Instore) @ Amoeba
White Whale (ex-Get Up Kids) @ Bottom Of The Hill
Under The Influence of Giants @ Cafe Du Nord
Tortoise @ Great American Music Hall
Nitzer Ebb @ Slim's
Suicide Girls @ The Independent
Misery Signals @ The Pound
The Music Lovers @ Amnesia

Friday
The Music Lovers (Instore) @ Amoeba
Suicide Girls @ The Independent
The Matches @ Slim's
Unearth, Terror & Bleeding Throgh @ The Fillmore
Radio Soulwax w/ 2 Many DJs @ The Mezzanine

Saturday
Portugal, The Man @ The Balazo Gallery
Ima Robot & Persephones Bees @ The Mezzanine
The Phenomenauts & River City Rebels @ Bottom Of The Hill
Love Like Fire & The Favourite Sons @ Cafe Du Nord
Zion I, Turf Talk & Crown City Rockers @ The Fillmore
John Legend @ The Independent

Sunday
The Nice Boys (Instore) @ Amoeba
Now And Zen Fest (Ft.
